The Great Northern Peninsula has a long history in providing rural health care and is currently served by two provincial health boards and two major hospitals:

• Western Health serves the southern part of the Great Northern Peninsula region and operates the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook.
  
• Labrador Grenfell Health serves the northern part of the region and operates Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.
  

Both the Western and Labrador Grenfell Health authorities delivers both primary and secondary health services to the residents of the region along with a variety of community based programs and acute and long term care services.

Within the region are four health centres:

• Strait of Belle Isle Health Centre, Flower's Cove (Labrador Grenfell Health)
• White Bay Central Health Centre, Roddickton-Bide Arm (Labrador Grenfell Health)
• Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, Port Saunders (Western Health)
• Bonne Bay Health Centre, Norris Point (Western Health)

These centres provide emergency services, ambulatory care, family medicine, 24 hour ambulance service and 24 hour nursing personnel for ambulance escort, public health services and clinics such as post-natal visiting, newborn care, pre-school and well baby assessments, lifestyle clinics, pre-natal classes, and more.

There are also dental services, diagnostic services, and child, youth and family services including childcare, both centre and family child care, adoptions, youth corrections, child intervention, family and rehabilitation services.

In addition, Travelling Medical Clinics are operated in Cow Head, Daniels Harbour and Parsons Pond.

Within the region are several facilities devoted to the care of seniors.
