Daniel's Harbour, was a mining town for some seventeen years. With the closure of the zinc mine in 1990 it remains a traditional fishing community, with a natural rock wall protecting the small harbour. The town is surrounded by natural attractions, with interesting and beautiful benches on one side, and breathtaking scenery offered by the Long Range Mountains on the other.
Daniel's Harbour is also home to Nurse Myra Bennett and "Uncle" Rufus Guinchard. The nursing accomplishments of Nurse Bennett gave her national and international attention and respect, and her home and personal effects remain in Daniel's Harbour and serve as a significant attraction for the area. The traditional Newfoundland music "Uncle Rufus produced on his fiddle, became internationally recognized as he played in various European countries and as far away as Japan.
Community and business services for Daniel's Harbour include a K-12 school, Holy Cross all Grades and a public library with public internet access Community Access Centre. A number of fishing enterprises work out of Daniel's Harbour and their fishing stores/sheds are located near the breakwater that provides shelter for local fishing boats. In addition, recreational services that are available include a ballfield, community hall and community trail. Health care is provided in a local medical clinic with hospital services in Norris Point (105 kms south). Other community services include a post office, fire services and ambulance service. A small community, the residents of Daniel's Harbour gets most of their business services from near by towns, i.e. Parsons Pond, Cow Head and St. Paul's.
The close proximity of Daniel's Harbour to Mountain Water Resort, just five miles south, of the town, provides the facilities and attractions of a modern day recreation park to tourist visiting the region.
